SF Adventures To Be Continued...

...in January.

I can't afford to be in SF this next fall, so I am staying in NC through the winter (yay snow....) and will try to save up enough $$ to head back in January/Early February. I finally got a bartending job here, so I gotta keep it for a while for experience and the cash. Sorry, no fun stories for a while. See you on the flip side!

You haven't been missing much

Well even without a job, I haven't really had time to post. School is wrapping up and I am working on final projects. Since Spring Break, I have pretty much been doing school-related things. I did end up going to bartending school with a friend here from AAU and I'm hoping to get a job with that. My little sister had her baby last week. A beautiful baby girl, all healthy and cute. Other than that stuff, my life hasn't been very interesting and I don't have much to report. I hope everyone else has been good! lol

Whirlwinds... seriously.

Hello friends!

This week is finally Spring Break. I have been very busy, obviously, with all my classes. This semester is WAY more intense than last semester, but I am learning so much. I do have to say, THANK GOD for a break! I am very much looking forward to this break because my cousin, Tonie will be here and so will m mom! I can't wait to see both of them. It's so nice to finally have someone coming here, on purpose, to see me. I need the company. I also need to get the hell out of my "apartment" because it's driving me crazy.

Anyway, I have had a ton of homework scheduled for me this week. Gotta love teachers that fill your "break" with work that's due to be printed and turned in the day after break even though every building on campus is closed... including the printing labs. So great.

Lately, the weather has been taking its toll on my upbeat disposition. Basically: IT WON'T STOP RAINING! I am not doing too well without being able to see the sunshine or go outside without an umbrella, which is about to fall apart at any second. The wind here is about to either rip it to shreds or turn it inside-out. At least I will have family here to add a little sunshine to the days. I am just a bit sad for them that they get to see the city how it really is.

We have had a very eventful past few weeks in this city though. A week or so ago, as you all know, Japan got hit with that terrible earthquake and tsunami. I was awakened at 4:30 a.m. by pretty much my entire family warning me that a tsunami was on its way to San Francisco. I stayed up the rest of the morning watching videos of the horrors happening to Japan and all its people. Luckily, we only got waves that were a bit larger than normal. Yesterday, we had such crazy winds that apparently there was a water spout (water tornado) off the coast of the beach here. And now some random guy is predicting that there is going to be a huge earthquake here in the next week so as a chain reaction to what happened in Japan. I hope he's wrong.

And to end on a much lighter note, I have some good news. I have officially turned to Apple computers (don't hate). I bought a used Macbook Pro off a student in one of my classes for cheap. I also got a brand spankin' new camera! It's beautiful and takes better pictures than I could have ever imagined. I'll share some pictures of that and some I have taken with it soon. So, I can't complain too much. Everyone just pray I get a job soon... still no luck in that department. Welcome to The Depression: Round 2.

Even though I am on break, I plan on going to bed at normal times until my family arrives. So, needless to say, it's past my bedtime and goodnight! :)

Facebook rules this one.

So obviously I suck at keeping up with this thing... I'm much better at facebook :)

Here are things you've missed:

I have been exploring the city much more since I have been back. I went to Twin Peaks and to see the Painted Ladies (aka Full House Park) with my friend, Kim. Click here to see the album. Then The next weekend I went exploring up by Fisherman's Wharf and Kim and I met up to go see Berkeley. Click here to see that album.

One of my goals was to find a nice place to run where I don't deal with rude people, smokers, and traffic lights. I found this place at the beach! One of the buses drops off a mile and a half away, so I start there and run back for a very beautiful, smoke and traffic-free run (that isn't very hilly, I might add). This is where I run.

And last weekend I took my friend, Shannon up to where I run and to see the Palace of Fine Arts up in the Presidio. I bought a new phone (yay- no more verizon!) and got pretty creative with my phone's panoramic setting in the camera. Artsy Fartsy.

So that gets you pretty much up to speed on the pictures I have been taking. I have exciting news though... I bought a brand new camera! It should arrive sometime this week! :) I am very excited about it and just want to say, Thank you, Uncle Sam, for not completely screwing me over and giving me a hefty return this year. You win :)

Also, my mom is coming to visit me soon! She will be here at the end of my Spring Break and I will show her the town. Cross your fingers for good weather!

That should be about it on my end. If I think of more, you will be the first to know!

One step closer to being a real photographer...

Today I got my light meter! For those of you that don't know what a light meter is... it looks like this:
It does readings of the light on a subject so that I can correctly expose my images. It's a very nice and professional thing to have. :) One step in the right direction of actually being able to feel like a real photographer. At this point, I kind of feel like I have lucked out with my images, but who knows.

Also, yesterday a few of my fellow students in my lighting class and I rented a studio at the school for the morning to get our projects/homework done. It was really fun and I learned a lot. I'm glad to start meeting more people in my department that are really awesome people to hang out with. Most of us went out for mexican food after working. SO glad to start having some people to hang out with and to work with finally. Maybe now this city might be a better fit for me. Only time will tell.

Distractions.

I have officially finished week 2 of my classes. I'm pretty happy that things are going right along, I'm just having issues with my assignments. I've had a lot on my mind and have been distracted. It's been a very hard week or so. I keep getting pretty terrible critiques on my images. Luckily, things are looking up because it's still early in the semester and the sun is still shining.

In the midst of all the chaos that has been going on, I got a roommate. She's very nice, but I doubt we'll be hanging out very much- Just different personality types.. That's ok though, especially because I have been meeting some really cool people lately. People that I hope will become good friends quickly.

Well I am not feeling so hot tonight, so it's off to bed for me. I hope you all sleep well and miss you!
